NOTE

Art Spiegelman, co-founder and editor of avant-garde comic Raw, developed the experiences of his parents as concentration-camp survivors into his graphic novels, Maus and the concluding Maus II. Mice represent Jews and cats represent Germans (the Katzies). In 1992 he was awarded a special Pulitzer Prize for Maus. In September 2004, he released his response to the 11 September terroist attacks as In the Shadow of No Towers.
