SPILSBURY, F.B. PICTURESQUE SCENERY IN THE HOLY LAND AND SYRIA, DELINEATED DURING THE CAMPAIGNS OF 1799 AND 1800. LONDON: THOMAS MCLEAN, 1819 Second edition, folio (452 x 318mm.), 19 hand-coloured aquatint plates, each with blank leaf to prevent offsetting of text onto plates, modern half calf, original crimson morocco label gilt mounted on upper cover, [cf. Blackmer 1585; Abbey, Travel 381 (both first editions)], lacking list of plates at end, some slight spotting and occasional soiling

Notes

Spilsbury was the surgeon on board H.M.S. Tigre, which took part in the English campaigns against the French in Egypt and Syria. The plates include views of Acre, Sidon, Beirut, Mount Tabor and Tripoli.
