STANLEY MASSEY ARTHURS (AMER 1877-1950) ILLUSTRATION A fine gouache on board by the American illustration artist Stanley Massey Arthurs, with exacting detail of a Japanese dock scene titled on reverse of board "First Expedition to Japan 1858"; reverse of board is also inscribed by artist "painted in 10-2-26"; possibly painted as one of a series of illustrations for the 1938 book "American Historical Scene"; framed under glass; image size:11.25" x 10.25", signed ARTHURS lower right. NOTE: Stanley Massey Arthurs was a favored student of renowned American illustrator Howard Pyle.
