Lot 1232: Superb Pair of Carved Aquamarine Dolphins

Taking his inspiration from the perfect shade of sea-blue color of these fine quality aquamarines, the artist has successfully evoked the aquatic theme in this excellent carving of these beloved marine mammals. Smooth polished to capture their sleek skin, the size and weight of the aquamarines is considerable: 2222 carats and 2284 carats, lengths 8 in and 8¾ inches, respectively. The effect of frothing waves is created through the use of euhedral or “water clear” carved rock crystal base. Their eyes are set with two small sapphire cabochons.
