Description

Sylvia Heyden (Sw/NC, b. 1927), Untitled Tapestry,high warp linen tapestry in blues and creams, mounted to a hanging rod. Sylvia Heyden translates her love of music to the patterns she creates on her loom, essentially a stringed instrument. Born in Switzerland, she moved to Durham, North Carolina in 1966 where she continued weaving and exhibiting her work until returning to Switzerland in 1993. This lot also includes a copy of the exhibition catalogue "Sylvia Heyden: Recent Tapestries" presented by the Duke University Museum of Art in 1972 (Durham, NC) and two copies of the Durham Art Guild retrospective exhibition. 48" x 87" Exhibited: The Durham Art Guild, "A Retrospective Exhibition of the Durham Art Guild 1948-1998." 23 August thru 23 September 1998.
