Item Overview

Description

Kakemono with ink on paper. Japan, 18th / 19th century. SIZE IMAGE 122 x 27,8 CM, SCROLL 183 x 42,4 CM
Buncho presents with a few strong and partly washed brushstrokes a mountainous landscape depicting a deep gorge with flowing water and a thicket of trees. A steep rock vertically raises from the centre. Skillful use of wash to create an idea of waterfalls and mysteriously ascending mist. Taniy Buncho originated from a Samurai - family and received a solid education as an artist painter. He mainly dedicated himself to the landscape painting in the style of the old masters. Signature: Buncho sha 文晁寫 and red seal. Silk mounting, wooden scrolls.
