NOTE

Teresita Fernández was born in 1968 in Miami, Florida and lives and works in New York. She had her first solo exhibition in 1995 at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami, and since then has exhibited worldwide at venues including the New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York; Castello di Rivoli, Turin; the Corcoran Gallery, Washington, D.C.; the Institute of Contemporary Art, Philadelphia; the Witte de With, Rotterdam; SITE Santa Fe, New Mexico; the Miami Art Museum, Florida; the Whitney Museum of American Art at Philip Morris, New York; and the Centro de Arte Contemporáneo de Málaga.

Fernandez is the recipient of numerous fellowships and awards, including a 2005 MacArthur Foundation Fellowship and the 1999 Louis Comfort Tiffany Biennial Award. She has also completed residencies in Japan, Italy, and the United States at The Fabric Workshop and Museum in Philadelphia and ArtPace in San Antonio. In 2000, She was commissioned for a special project by the Museum of Modern Art in New York and again in 2001 by the Public Art Fund. Fernandez is also the youngest artist to have been commissioned by the Seattle Art Museum for the Olympic Sculpture Park. Other artists selected for the Park include Richard Serra and Alexander Calder.

Her work is included in numerous major private collections as well as the permanent collections of the St. Louis Art Museum, Missouri; the Museum of Contemporary Art, Miami; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Miami Art Museum; the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo; and, the Sammlung Goetz, Munich.
