Notes

The artist in interested in the intimacy of life and nature. He is concerned with modern advances made in technology allowing human modification to genetic material, and the consequent ramifications in attempting to control nature, which disrupts natural progression that he believes is integral to spiritual growth. His works take a stand against this moderating of nature as this symbiotic relationship between nature and man takes on an almost sacred role in defining the development of the person. This philosophy is manifested in the present work which highlight the lotus flower, a symbol of Nature and Buddhism, which is placed indisputably in the center of a frame. Colours are also used succinctly to accentuate the lotus flower as the gold contrast drastically with the dark background and allowing the flower to stand out unabashedly.

"The works featured in this latest exhibit, entitled Because of That, There is this, point to a further evolution in the form, content and manner of expression in Thavorn's art. Built on the experience he has acquired over the course of his career as are all works of art to a varying degree the works in the new exhibit seem almost entirely inspired by personal events in the life of the artist. The ice shaver for turning solid blocks of ice into small, sharp shards that punctured the tender feet of a four-year old boy still picks the memory of a fifty-year-old man, and provides inspiration for one of his artistic creations." (Dr. Krisana Honguten, "Because Of That, There Is This" in exhibition catalogue Because of That, There is this, August 2006, Bangkok, p. 2)

Indeed, the belief and the experience of the artist shaped and formulated the works from this most recent exhibition of the artist which testify to the artist's subtle but potent interpretations of the organic beauty of life.
