Attributed to Raffael Corsini (Italian, fl.1830-1880) The brig Hawkhill of Kincardine in the Mediterranean off Smyrna indistinctly signed (lower right) and inscribed and dated 'Brig Hawkhill Kincardine July 25 t h 1845' (lower centre) oil on canvas 15 x 21 in. (38.1 x 53.4 cm.)

The brig Hawkhill was built for Roy & Co. at Bo'ness, Scotland, in 1842. Registered at 162 tons, her home port was Kincardine, on the Firth of Forth, and she traded out of Liverpool to Naples and the Mediterranean ports for about five years before turning to other routes including Odessa and Trinidad.
