Thornton studied print making in Paris under Stanley William Hayter at Atelier 17, later spending two years at the Pratt Institute in New York. Her etchings of architectural and ecclesiastical subjects form a major part of her artistic output throughout her career, and her work can be found at numerous public collections.

Collier purchased from Abbott and Holder, 1998.
