An inferior version of this composition attributed to Tommaso Manzuoli, called Maso da San Friano, was offered at Sotheby's, London, 31 October 1990, lot 109.

The present lot is sold with photocopies of certificates from W.R. Valentiner, dated New York, 17 November 1943, and William Suida, dated New York, 4 October 1941, both as by Giorgio Vasari.
