Description

full-length, standing in a landscape wearing navy velvet suits, playing with bows and arrows oil on canvas Thomas Barber was a pupil of Sir Thomas Lawrence, and set up a portrait practice in Derby (returning to his native Nottingham only late in his life). In addition to portraits, Barber painted landscapes and even occassionally history pictures. An Agony in the Garden was commissioned for the church of Saint Peter's, Nottingham in 1815/16, still in situ. He exhibited sporadically in the Royal Academy from 1810 to 1829.
