Description

THOMAS KERRICH ( British 1748-1828) A PAIR OF 18TH CENTURY PORTRAIT MINIATURES the first of "MATILDA KERRICH" a young woman dressed in lace cap, collar and fine gown, facing front, watercolour on paper, hand inscribed in ink to verso "Drawn by Thomas Kerrich when he was a boy". Attached alongside a printed short biography "Born Oct 31 1742, married her cousin Nov. 5 1767, died Oct 22 1823". Further indistinct inscription in pencil. The second of "JOHN KERRICH" a gentleman in profile, pencil on paper, hand inscribed in ink to verso "John Kerrich Surgeon, Burnham Norfolk. TK delin 1767", also attached alongside a printed short biography "2nd son of John Kerrich MA rector of Banham Co. Norfolk, born 1737 died 1787, no issue.". Both oval mounted and framed under glass. 14.5cm x 12.5cm ( 2 ) ***Thomas Kerrich became a clergyman, principal Cambridge University librarian, antiquary, draughtsman and gifted amateur artist. A Fellow of Magdalene and a Fellow of the Royal Society and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries, he published papers on architecture, sepulchres and coffins. A self portrait is housed in the National Portrait Gallery.
