wearing moss-green coat and white stock, his right hand tucked inside his coat; she, with hair in ringlets, wearing décolleté deep-pink dress with pleated decoration and white lace trim, a pearl bordered pendant on strand of pearls about her neck and drop earring signed with initials and dated on the obverse TM 1829 and TM 1826 respectively, gilded rectangular wood frames with spandrels, canvas mounts and ormolu slips, the reverse with labels inscribed: Thomas Marshall/ 1788-1874/ Painted by himself/ in/ 1829 and Elizabeth Jane Marshall/ by Thos Marshall/ 1826/ Wife of the above ovals, 3 1/4in.
