THOMAS WEBSTER (British, 1800-1886) "A BIRTHDAY SURPRISE". Oil on wood panel interior scene shows a young boy in a doorway in front of a woman in black dress. The woman reads a note that the boy has just handed her and at his feet is a basket of flowers. The interior walls are lined with paintings and there is a red drape on the left hand side. Appears to be housed in its original frame with title and artist plaque. Charles Roberson & Comp., London label on reverse with artist name and dated "1872". Unsigned front. SIZE: 12" x 9". CONDITION: Panel is warped, some light chipping in curtain. Good. 9-72240
