Item Overview

Description

HENRY THOMPSON (1820-1904) British surgeon who specialized in treatment of the kidneys and kidney stones, also an advocate of cremation and denounced the slackness and inefficiency of the methods of death certification prevalent in Great Britain. Fine lot of four A.L.S.'s, 7pp. Total, most 12mo., London, three ca. 1873 and 1902, one with excellent content, in part: "...Pray follow me in never suggesting that Cremation should be compulsory at any time. What must be compulsory is...a well managed Death Certification in every case. When that is achieved Cremation will be far safer than burial is at present in the matter of discharge of poison...I have done all my work or nearly so... ". Very good. $150-200
