Description

TIM ZUCK (1947-)BIRD HOUSE (#268)charcoal on wove papersigned, titled and dated 2008 on artist label on the reverse 22 ins x 17.75 ins; 55.9 cms x 45.1 cms Provenance:Private Collection, CalgaryPaul Kuhn Gallery, CagaryExhibited:Slow Sight: Tim Zuck and Itee Pootoogook, MacLaren Art Centre, Barrie, Ontario, 9 June 2012 - 2 September, 2012Tim Zuck is known to paint common objects and familiar places, pared down to their most essential form. In his expertly executed paintings, he pushes the boundaries of realism. “I really try to slow down time by trying to take simple things and actually tear them down, peel away at it. I basically try and reduce the object to its essence and that is really intense for me and it works.”Born in Erie, Pennsylvania in 1947, Zuck was educated at the Nova Scotia College of Art and received his MFA from the California Institute of the Arts in 1972. As an instructor at NSCAD from 1972 to 1979, his practice reflected the conceptual processes prevalent at the time. In 1979, Zuck left NSCAD and his performance, video and photography work to pursue painting full time. His work has been widely exhibited and collected throughout Canada and is held in the permanent collections of leading institutions including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa, the Canada Council Art Bank, McMichael Canadian Collection, Toronto, Vancouver Art Gallery and Art Gallery of Ontario among many others.Estimate: $4,000–6,000
