Description

standing in a majestic furisode decorated with striking designs of scattered cursive script of poetic connotations, she flashes a seductive glance back over her shoulder, the actor Fujimura Handayû II [active ?-1729-1733-1745] is identified by the kiri hairpin and the crest on the garment, in the role of the courtesan Tora from Oiso, the lover of Soga no Juro, in the play Bandô ichi kotobuki Soga, performed probably in the New Year of Shotoku 5/1 [1715] at the Nakamura-za, publisher's seal of Motohama-chô Iga-ya hanmoto (Iga-ya, publisher at Motohama-chô), signed Torii Kiyomasu and sealed Kiyomasu

Only two other impressions are known, held in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and the Art Institute, Chicago

Condition Note: Very good impression, considerably toned and soiled
