TWO GEORGE III SILVER MEAT PLATTERS, JOSEPH PITTS / ROBERT SHARP, LONDON, 1800/1802 both oval, the first with reeded rim, the center engraved with arms within a shield bordered by an oval of husks and beads; the second with gadroon rim, border engraved with contemporary arms and supporters beneath a Viscount's coronet marked on undersides, second with scratchweight 115"13 lengths 20 1/4 in., 22 3/4 in. 51.5cm, 57.7cm 5492g Joseph Pitts / Robert Sharp, London

Provenance

The arms on the 1802 platter are those of Pierrepont, for Charles (b. 1737) who succeeded to the estates of his uncle, the Duke of Kingston, created Baron Pierrepont of Holme Pierrepont and Viscount Newark, of Newark-on-Trent, later created Earl Manvers in 1806. He died in 1816.
