TWO SLIP-DECORATED 'PRUNUS' VASES

Mid-Late Qing Dynasty

Comprising a pear-shaped brown-glazed vase decorated under the glaze with a lightly incised white slip depicting branches of prunus blossom and budding stems alongside narcissus to one side; and a widely crackled lavender-glazed
meiping vase decorated in an opaque white slip with a long-beaked bird perched on a gnarled blossoming prunus tree rising from a knoll near rockwork to one side, the neck interior and the base with a crackled white-glazed, the base with a rare underglaze-blue four-character seal mark reading

brown-glazed vase: 9 1/2in (24.1cm) high
meiping: 9 3/8in (23.8cm) high

Brown-glazed vase: Generally, in good condition, save for a hairline at the neck and rim (4.5cm). Interesting slip decoration under the coffee glaze which pools slightly at various points in the decoration. The reverse side with a paler glaze drip but unobtrusive.


Lavender-glazed vase: Generally, in good condition, save for an area of smoky inclusions to the glaze that run from below the neck to approximately one half of the rounded shoulder. A small kiln adhesion at the foot but unobtrusive.
