TWO UNUSUAL BLUE AND WHITE DOUBLE-GOURD VASES

Kangxi

The globular lower body painted in a wide band with ascending and descending peony branches and reserve lappets, rimmed by a chevron band beneath the waisted midsection, the smaller upper bulb of the gourd with ogival flowerhead panels and fish-roe ground below an inverted bell-shaped shoulder with vertical panels dividing the
wanzi-fret ground, all below the tall spreading cylindrical neck with sprays of pinks and flitting insects. (2)


7 7/8in (20cm) and 7 3/4in (19.7cm) high

One with chip to underside of rim (1cm) with short associated crack and minute air bubble pinpricks to the interior. The other with an air bubble pinprick burst on the underside of the rim. A few other minor air-bubble pinpricks to both vases but unobtrusive.
