Uga Skulme was a leading member of the Riga Artist's Group which existed from 1920 to 1940. Throughout this period the group experimented with various stylistic concepts including cubist geometrisation, a fauvistic colour palette and expressionism, although each artist keep their own distinctive style.
As well a being a respected artist Uga Skulme also contributed to contemporary art theory and criticism and later became a Professor at the Lativian State Academy of Arts (1945-1963)
