Notes

Uni-form is a work by the Thai artist Pornpilai Zou Meemalai and it was exhibited at the artist's recent show: Living Together at Ardel Gallery of Modern Art, Bangkok in September 2007. The exhibition is a duo show of both Pornpilai and Jiradej Meemalai. The press release of the exhibition explains the theme of the show "Their work is about visual perception, and the ways in which we experience everyday life by learning from our living condition. They involve methods of personal/social exchanges, interactivity with the viewer within the aesthetic experience being offered to him her, in their tangible dimension as tools serving to link human together. Their roles as representation convey certain interrelated/contradicted pattern between each individual or human group in our time."

Living together also plays with the pun of the words as both artists are indeed living together as spouses. The daily events and objects which are the main source of inspirations for the artists lend a deeper meaning to the oeuvres for they are objects inspired from life with which, according to both artists, are abundant with artistic and creative meanings hence that one is always living together with art.

Specifically on the present work which presents a tactile and fluid sculpture that is nuanced with the senses of texture and shades. The artist is poignant with the manipulation of the relationship between the space and sculpture and the reading of the sculpture would not be completed without noting the soft shadow casts on the wall with the appropriate lighting.

The press release of the exhibition comments on the present work as "the sensitivity of female has threaded into shape. Uni-Form 2006-7, Pornpilai Meemalai chooses to use silver wire, from delicate lines are tied up into constant form and structure. Although the lines seem intricate, they give a pneumatic, clear and repetitive detail. For a period of time, Pornpilai is interested in the complementary of things and time by using the see-through abstract structure to reveal the unseen continual state of flux."
