Vasily Ivanovich Navozov was born in Moscow and studied at the Stroganov Institute of Art from 1874 to 1880, specialising in decorative design for the Church and other institutions. He continued his studies at the School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture in Moscow, and then, on the advice of Vasily Perov, at the Imperial Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg.
