Notes

The present painting was commissioned by John Hay Whitney as part of a large group of paintings of Saratoga, many of which were disbursed in these rooms in April of 1999.

To this day, the present lot is recognized as one of Flannery's most interesting and unusual racing compositions. Between its completion in 1948 and its acquisition by Mr. Jeffords, Jr., it was repeatedly exhibited at Kraushaar and other galleries.
