Item Overview

Description

Untitled Signed and dated 'Viswanadhan 97' lower right and further signed and dated 'Viswanadhan V. 97' on reverse Casein on canvas 42 1/8 x 42 1/8 in. (107 x 107 cm.) NOTES 'The tight geometry of form, which releases only parsimonious slivers of light from its dark interior abyss, disintegrates even as you look, to melt and fuse into a plastic movement of infinite formlessness.' (Sadanand Menon, 'Framing an Illuminated Field', Art India, Vol. 3, Issue 4, Mumbai, October - December 1998, p. 25.) From his early figurative works of the 1960's, Viswanadhan's work today has moved toward abstraction, where his primary concern is in the handling of space. His bold yet tremendously ordered brushstrokes done in casein (a phosphoprotein of milk) reveal his definition of space, which is 'material, tactile and sensual.'.
