Vítezslav Nezval, doslov Karel Teige. Prague, Fr. Borový, 1938.
In-4, paperback.
Original edition.
The first comprehensive catalogue of the work of the Prague artist couple.
Karel Teige and Vítezslav Nezval, like Štyrský and Toyen, were key figures in the Czech avant-garde since the birth of the
Devetsil movement in 1920. Initiators of poeticism, they participated in the formation of the Czech Surrealist group.
In the same year that this catalogue was published, Nezval broke away from the group, not without a fuss, to join the Communist Party. After the war he became an ardent Stalinist.
A copy of Paul Eluard's book, enriched with a triple signed autograph mailing:
To Paul Eluard, whose poetry we love
Jindrich Štyrský Toyen
To our wonderful Friend
Vítezslav Nezval
To our love poetry!
Karel Teige
Prague, 14./ 1. 1938
Among the works listed in the catalogue are four collages by Štyrský illustrating the Czech edition of the Public Rose, translated by Nezval, as well as three oil paintings belonging to Eluard.
Enclosed:
- the prospectus of the exhibition jointly organized by Karel Teige at the Prague gallery Salon Topic. Bi-foil in-8. Autograph letter signed to Paul Eluard, also dated January 14, 1938;
- an in-8 leaf bearing, again in Teige's hand: Je me souviens tous les jours à vous.
Partially sunned cover. Small tear at the head of the lower cover, small trace of wetness at the foot of the spine.
Štyrský a Toyen.

A notre Ami merveilleux
Vítezslav Nezval
A notre amour la poésie !
Karel Teige
Prague, 14./ 1. 1938
