FIRST EDITION OF DANIELE BARBARO'S IMPORTANT TRANSLATION AND COMMENTARY WITH ILLUSTRATIONS BY ANDREA PALLADIO.

Palladio (1508-1580) is mentioned by Barbaro in the text, stating that he did designs for the more important illustrations and helped to interpret the most difficult technical passages. The other woodcut illustrations are very likely by Giuseppe Porta Salviati (1520-1575) and Giovanni Antonio Rusconi (1520-1579). Barbaro's edition "is widely considered to be the most significant Italian edition of the treatise. the illustrations provided by Andrea Palladio, among others, are the most persuasive architectural illustrations associated with the Vitruvian text" (Millard).
