Notes

Little is known about the life of Vittorio Schiavon. Born in Triest, he moved to Amsterdam in the beginning of the 20th century, living in the Prins Hendrikstraat in Watergraafsmeer. In Amsterdam he joined the artistsgroup 'De Onafhankelijken', where he exhibited in 1913 and 1917. Schiavon was the teacher of the female artist Nola Hatterman (1899-1984). He died in Amsterdam in 1918. Work of Schiavon is included in the collection of the Amsterdam Historisch Museum. The present lot is certainly one of the highlights in the artist's oeuvre.
