signed on reverse and dated W S Lethbridge Pinxt/ No. 96 Strand/ London/ 1813 and inscribed with the sitter's name, gold frame with glazed reverse

Rear-Admiral Abraham Mills Hawkins became a Lieutenant on the 11th June 1807 and was promoted to the rank of Commander on the 12th December 1812. In 1819 he married Mary Wise by whom he had two sons. He became a Captain on the 6th February 1835 and a Rear-Admiral on the 14th February 1857. He married again, in 1852, Mary Hickes and died on the 13th November 1857 aged 73.
