WASHINGTON F. FRIEND (Canadian, 1820-1886) A VIEW OF CHELTENHAM, PENNSYLVANIA.Outstanding historical watercolor panoramic view of a city on bluff above a large river. The oval watercolor shows the river full of large three-mast sailing vessels along busy wharfs dotted with large buildings. A man and woman sit on the rivers edge in the foreground looking out over this view. The city with large buildings, one having a dome, others with spires and on the left hand hill there appears to be a large fort with flag. Mountains are seen in the background. Along the wharf are two white river sidewheel boats. Signed lower left "W F Friend". Housed in what appears to be its original gilt frame with oval cutout gilt matte. Old label attached to back with location. SIZE: Sight: 13" x 21-3/4". CONDITION: Some toning, generally in good condition. 9-90830
