Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A PRIVATE COLLECTOR
Wilhelm Viktor Krausz (1878-1959) was a highly important Jewish portrait painter especially sought after from 1910-1940. Unfortunately there were many unlawful purchases or confiscations of Krausz' works from collections in Vienna during the war years. He was forced to flee to the States in 1940, where he later became a US citizen. Krausz was recognised from an early age when he won the Prix de Rome in 1894 at the age of 16. His second Rome prize was won with 'The Olive Press' and this is the picture illustrated below as lot 17. The Library of Congress in Washington D.C has a portrait by him of Sigmund Freud and the Metropolitan Opera House in New York has portraits by him of Novotna, Strauss, and Liszt.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium, which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
This lot is subject to storage and collection charges. For Furniture and Decorative Objects, storage charges commence 7 days from sale. Please contact department for further details.
