Description

outstanding carved frame. Coffin was a portraitist and illustrator from Washington, D.C. He studied at the Corcoran School of Art and in Paris. He was a member of the Society of Illustrators, and exhibited at the Cosmos Club (Wash. DC) and the Society of Washington Artists (1898-1904). Coffin had a very successful career in New York for some time as a magazine illustrator, but financial problems led him to suicide in 1941.
