Lot 53: William Hounson Byles (b. 1872)

The Grand National, 1927 signed 'W Hounson Byles' (lower right), with inscriptions of the horses' names on the mount watercolour and bodycolour 101/2 x 20 in. (26.6 x 50.8 cm.) NOTES 1927 was the first year that the Grand National was broadcast by the BBC on the radio. The race had 37 starters and the winner was the 8-1 favourite Sprig . Sprig was bred by Captain Richard Pennington in 1917 while on leave from the trenches.
