Visits to Granada and Seville supplied him with the material for several canvases portraying aspects of lilfe in the market town. he brought back only six pictures from his travels, amoungst them some fine portrait studies of Spanish gipsy girls 9including the present example). His pictures of Spanish Market places and interiors are very original and the style of these later works has led him to being termed the Scottish Impressionist
