Description

William John Thomson (1771-1845), Scottish ISABELLA PURVIS; HANNAH SLILL (TWO NURSES AT WHITEHAUGH); Two oils, the first, oil on panel, titled to an old label verso, the crest ornament of the frame is fitted with a glazed circular medallion containing a lock of the sitter's hair as in 1840, the second title, oil on canvas laid down on panel, titled to old label verso. Both ascribed to Thomson, Edinburgh to the same old label verso. 13" x 10" - 33 x 25.4 cm.; 12.25" x 10" - 31.1 x 25.4 cm.

Notes

Note: The sitters were two nurses to Williamina Helen Stewart (Mrs. Forbes Leith Whitehaugh) wife of Colonel James John Forbes. Hannah was still a nurse at Whitehaugh when this portrait was executed. Hannah worked at Whitehaugh for 13 years from 1833 to 1846.
