Notes

According to Arthur B. and Sybil Kern in The Clarion, (Fall 1988), William Massey Strode Doyle of Boston (1769-1828) was a painter of sillouettes, miniatures and pastels. He was a manufacturer of paper hangings in 1795-1796. In 1803 he was painting miniatures at the Columbian Museum on Tremont Street when it was destroyed by fire. The new museum opened on May 19, 1803 on Milk Street of which Doyle was a part owner with Daniel Bowen. In January 1807 "The New and Elegant Building" was destroyed by fire. Another new building was opened on June 2, 1807 where Doyle continued to work through 1827.
