William Moore (1790-1851) Portrait of a Lady, seated, three quarter length, wearing a black dress trimmed with lace; Portrait of a Young Man, seated, three quarter length, wearing a black coat and waistcoat Both signed and dated 1838, extensively inscribed on exhibition labels verso, pencil and watercolour, each 26.5cm by 21.5cm (a pair) Exhibited at the City of York Art Gallery, Exhibition of Pictures by the Moore Family 1912, and loaned by Henry Birch The artist was a provincial portrait painter. Four of his fifteen children were artists, Albert Joseph Moore being the youngest.
