Notes

William Parrott worked as a topographical painter and watercolourist, regularly exhibiting at the Royal Academy, the British Institution and Suffolk Street. The present watercolour demonstrates his technical ability in the execution of the architecture as well as his understanding of the medium of watercolour.

St Thomas's, whose towers can be seen to the right of the picture, was built between 1868 and 1871. Parrott died in 1869 and so the present watercolour must have been executed between 1868-9.

We are grateful to Charles Hind for his help in preparing this catalogue entry.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
