A pair of miniatures: a young gentleman, in blue frock coat with brass buttons, black waistcoat, white linen shirt with stand collar, white knotted cravat, two sapphire-set rings, curling dark hair, a book in his right hand; interior background; together with a young lady, in black dress, seated on blue and red shawl, long gold necklace with pendant, drop gold gem-set earrings, gem-set rings on her right hand; dark red velvet curtain background
the former signed and dated with a preparatory sketch on the backing paper 'Wm Patten Jun. 1827'
on ivory
rectangular, he, 4¼ x 3¼ in. (108 x 83 mm.); she, 4 3/8 x 3 5/16 in. (111 x 84 mm.), gilt-wood frames with scrolled trophy motifs (2)
