William S. Phillips "Lest We Forget" Print Signed by Curtis LeMay, 6 More WWII PilotsThis 35 ¾” x 24” print has seven images, with the focus an F-111 flying low over an English churchyard. On each side of the central scene are images of three aircraft, a B-17 Flying Fortress, a B-24 Liberator, a B-26 Marauder, a P-51 Mustang, a P-47 Thunderbolt and a P-38 Lightning. The artist and Gen. Curtis LeMay signed below the large image. A pilot for each type of plane was also signed.LeMay had an especially distinguished career: Leader and commander of the first Regensburg raid in 1943, commander for the raids on Japan in 1944 and 1945, organizer of the Berlin Airlift, head of the newly created Strategic Air Command, and Air Force Chief of Staff. The pilots and their planes are B-17, Col. William R. Lawley (Jr.) (d. 1999), Medal of Honor for service in Europe. B-21, Maj. Gen. Andy Low (d. 2000), Distinguished Flying Cross, Legion of Merit, shot down on his 16th mission over Germany and became a POW. B-26, Lt. Jim Farrell, pilot of legendary B-26 Flak Bait, which completed 72 missions. P-51, Gen. Robin Olds (d. 2007), Distinguished Flying Cross with 4 oak leaf clusters, fighter ace with 24 ½ fighter victories (air and ground), including four in Vietnam. P-47, Col. Hub Zemke (d. 1994), Distinguished Service Cross, fighter ace with 18 victories. P-38, Col. Gerald Brown (d. 2007), Distinguished Flying Cross, 5 WWII victories.
