The sitter was the daughter of Borlase Warren and married Charles Cockayne, 5th Baron Cockayne and Viscount Cullen on 18th April 1732. The painting shows her with one of her daughters who died young and with her son Charles who was born on 31st July 1736. They lived at Rushton Hall, Northamptonshire.
William Winstanley was probably the son of the architect Henry Winstanley. He drew the East Prospect of Rushton Hall in 1740 (engraved in 1750).
