Williams James Laidlay, Indian/British, 1846-1912- "Evening In Colton More"; oil on canvas, inscribed verso, Note: Lindlay born in Calcutta, a Professional cricketer, author and painter. A founder member of the New England Art Club on which he wrote a book. He studied in Paris from 1879-1885 with Carolus Duran (as did John Singer Sargent) Laidlay painted several Nile river scenes in 1900, an example of which is held by the Tate Gallery.
