WIMMITJI TJAPANGARTI CIRCA 1924-2000 KUTU 1989 120 by 60 cm Synthetic polymer paint on canvas Bears artist's name 'Wimmitji', size and Warlayirti Artists catalogue number 425/89 together with exhibition label on the reverse Provenance: Painted in 1989 at Wirrimanu (Balgo Hills), for Warlayirti Artists Dreamtime Gallery, Brisbane The Sam Barry Collection Exhibited: of the Western Desert, Bond University Campus Gallery, Queensland, 18-31 October 1990, exhibition label on the reverse Cf. The Artist's Country, 1989, in the collection of the National Gallery of Australia, illustrated in Caruana, W., Aboriginal Art, Thames and Hudson, World of Art series, London and New York, 2003, p.156, plate 134. This painting is sold with an accompanying certificate from Warlayirti Artists, Balgo Hills that reads in part: 'Artist's Country. Two old women were travelling through this country in the Dreamtime. The painting shows where they slept (the depression is now in rock). The Rainbow Snake (Wanayarra) which created water- sources is shown also. This is the country where the artist grew up'.
