WIMMITJI TJAPANGARTI CIRCA 1929-2000 KARLINGAWI 1990 120 by 90 cm Synthetic polymer paint on canvas Bears artist's name 'Wimmitji', size and Warlayirti Artists catalogue number 355/90 together with exhibition label on the reverse Provenance: Painted in 1990 at Wirrimanu (Balgo Hills), for Warlayirti Artists Hogarth Galleries, Sydney The Sam Barry Collection Exhibited: Hogarth Galleries, Sydney 1990 of the Western Desert, Bond University Campus Gallery, Queensland, 18-31 October 1990 This painting is sold with an accompanying certificate from Warlayirti Artists, Balgo Hills that reads in part: 'Artist's Country. A mother Dingo was here in the Dreamtime with her pups and they are seen in rock formations in the landscape. The mother was called Yatarru and the pups are known collectively as Warltjiri. Many small water sources are also seen as is the desert- oak or "parka-parka". The boomerang and fighting stick of another Dreamtime creature are also seen. The artist lived here as a young man.'
