Description

Wingate Paine, Françoise Sagan, Federico Fellini. "Mirror of Venus." Random House, 1971. Stated first edition. Approximately 150 pages. Large-format volume (9.5" x 12.5") is bound in purple cloth, with stamped gilt lettering to spine and blind-stamped lettering to front cover. Book shows light shelfwear. Binding is firm. Dust jacket flaps are taped to pastedowns. Interior is clean and bright. Dust jacket displays loss at top of front panel and has creasing/taped tears to rear panel. Jacket is in paper-backed mylar cover. This work offers chiefly b&w erotic images of women, including full- and double-page photos. This work by American advertising photographer Wingate Paine (1915-1987), with short texts by Sagan and Fellini, is considered an icon of the 1960’s Sexual Revolution.

Eastern States Auction Service is based outside of Ithaca, New York. It primarily offers works of fine art, rare books, and autographs from private collections throughout the eastern United States. The lots at each auction represent a curated selection of objects chosen according to criteria reflecting a sense of discernment, conservation, and stewardship. The aim of the auction house is to avail itself of curatorial methodology to obtain the finest works and objects for collectors.

This offering of rare books and autographs has been researched and catalogued by Raul Delgado-Rodriguez, who has a doctoral degree from Harvard University and was the head of the cataloging department of an upstate New York auction house for seven years.

TERMS OF SALE
The auctioneer has the right at his absolute discretion to refuse any bid. The highest bidder shall be the buyer at the hammer price.

Dispute between bidders - If any dispute arises between two or more bidders, the auctioneer will decide the outcome. The decision of the auctioneer shall be final and absolute.

Condition of items sold - The auctioneer shall not be responsible for the authenticity, genuineness of, estimated selling price of, or defect in any lot, and makes no warranty in connection therewith. No allowance will be made or sale set aside on account of any incorrectness, error in cataloging, or any imperfection not noted. It should be noted that works have not been examined outside of frame. All measurements and sizes are approximate.

Manner of payment - All lots are to be paid in full by cash, bank check, personal check, bank wire, or money order. Payment must take place in full within three days of close of the auction. Auctioneer reserves the right to hold merchandise until a buyer's check clears and reserves the right to not accept a check. There will be a $30.00 service charge for any check returned by the bank for any reason.

Shipping - shall be at the expense and liability of the purchaser. Purchased items will be available for shipping once full payment has cleared. Buyers must promptly arrange shipping at their expense. The auction house may provide assistance to the buyer through a third-party if such assistance is requested.

Records - The record of sale kept by the auctioneer and clerk will be taken as final in the event of any dispute.
