Description

Wittwer, Hans (H. Koch) New restaurant building Halle/Leipzig airport Photographer: Heinrich Koch (1896 - 1934). The new restaurant at the Halle-Leipzig airport. 1930-31. Vintage ferrotyped gelatin silver print. 17 x 23 cm (18 x 24,3 cm). Photographer's stamp and annotated in pencil on the verso. Hans Wittwer was a Meister at the Bauhaus Dessau between 1927 - 1929. Later he worked as a teacher at the Kunstgewerbeschule Burg Giebichenstein in Halle. During this time he designed the Halle-Leipzig airport restaurant. Once the National Socialists came to power he lost his professorship in 1933 and could not finish his work on the airport project. The very modern restaurant built next to the Halle-Leipzig airport soon became a very popular excursion destination. - Small handling crease in lower portion, otherwise in very good condition.
