RELATED LITERATURE

Pope-Hennessy 1964, no. 705

Although an early label on the reverse of the frame ascribes the present relief to Agostino Corsini, comparison to the only signed relief by Corsini (Pope-Hennessy, op. cit., no. 705) is unconvincing. Several reliefs by Giuseppe Maria Mazza and his workshop feature very similar treatment of drapery, facial types, and heavenly clouds; the present relief likely comes from Mazza's workshop, where Agostino Corsini probably studied.
