Notes

Saskatchewan NAC bio:Wynona Mulcaster was born in 1915 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. She studied art with Ernest Lindner from 1935 to 1945, earning her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon in 1943. Mulcaster then went on to study at the Banff School of Fine Arts (1946), and at the School of Art and Design in Montreal under Arthur Lismer (1947). Mulcaster also attended many workshops at Emma Lake between 1937 and 1993, studying with Joseph Plaskett, Will Barnett, and Kenneth Noland, among many others. Mulcaster spent several years as an art teacher to school children in Prince Albert and rural Saskatchewan (1937-1943), then taught art at the Saskatchewan Teachers' College in Saskatoon, where she served as Director of Art Education (1945-1948), and at the University of Saskatchewan (1964-1977). Her students included Robert Murray, Otto Rogers, and Allen Sapp. Mulcaster's art led her to travel to Europe to visit major galleries in 1958 and 1959, after receiving a Canada Council grant. In 1976, she received a second Canada Council grant that allowed her to study at the Instituto Allende in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, receiving an MFA from this world-class art school in 1976. Mulcaster had an interest in horses, and they were her primary subject matter before she transitioned to landscape painting. In 1945 she founded the Saskatoon Pony Club, where she taught riding most days, with no salary, right up to 1973. Mulcaster was inducted into the Saskatoon Sports Hall of Fame for this work in 1994. Mulcaster's art is represented in many important collections, including those of the Canada Council Art Bank (Ottawa), the MacKenzie Art Gallery (Regina), the Mendel Art Gallery (Saskatoon), Glenbow Museum (Calgary), and the Saskatchewan Arts Board. In 1993, Mulcaster was awarded the Saskatchewan Arts Board Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in the Arts. Wynona Mulcaster died in August 2016, at the age of 101, in San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, where she had lived for nearly 40 years.

Terms

1. The closing of lots is staggered, with each subsequent lot closing one minute after the previous lot. If a bid is placed within the final moments of bidding for a particular lot, the bidding for that lot only will be extended for 3 minutes to allow for counter bids.

2. The total purchase price of each lot shall include the successful hammer price of the lot together with a buyer's premium of 18% of the hammer price. All prices are in Canadian Dollars.

3. A Goods and Services Tax of 5% will be charged on the hammer price and buyer's premium on all lots shipped to Canadian Provinces other than Saskatchewan. A Goods and Services Tax (GST) of 5% and a Provincial Sales Tax (PST) of 6% will be added to the successful hammer price and buyer's premium for all lots purchased by Saskatchewan residents or for delivery within Saskatchewan. However, the first $300 of hammer price for each previously owned artwork is PST exempt. Goods shipped outside of Canada are not subject to any sales tax.

4. Although Saskatchewan Network for Art Collecting takes great care and diligence in cataloging of lots offered for auction, all property is sold "as is" and neither we nor our consignors or agents make any warranties or representations as to the correctness of the catalogue entry or other descriptions contained therein, of the physical conditions, size, authenticity, or quality.

5. Notwithstanding the preceding condition, if the purchaser can provide, within 28 days of the sale of any lot, written opinion from at least two acknowledged experts or authorities that the said lot was incorrectly described in the catalogue, and if the purchaser returns the said lot within 28 days after such notice in the same condition as sold, we as agent for the consignor will rescind the sale and refund the purchase price.

6. We reserve the right to withdraw any property up to the moment of sale.

7. If the auctioneers decide, irrespective of any publicized or catalogued estimate, that any opening bid is below the value of the lot offered, they may reject the bid and withdraw the lot from sale, and if, having acknowledged an opening bid, they decide that any advance thereafter is insufficient, they may reject the advance.

8. With the fall of the auctioneer's hammer, title to the lot being offered will pass to the highest bidder acknowledged by the auctioneer, subject to the conditions set forth herein. The successful bidder thereupon will pay the full purchase price and assume full risk and responsibility for the said lot. All property must be removed by the purchaser at his or her expense not later than sixty business days following its sale and if not so removed a handling charge of 2% of the purchase price per month will be payable by the purchaser until the property is removed.

9. Payment should be made in full within ten days following the sale by email transfer, cheque, cash, bank draft, PayPal, Visa, MasterCard, Bitcoin or Ethereum unless other arrangements have been made with the auctioneer prior to the sale. Payment via PayPal, Visa or Mastercard will be subject to a 3% surcharge on the invoice total, and Payment via Bitcoin or Ethereum will be subject to a 10% surcharge on the invoice total. Successful bidders will receive an invoice via email from the auctioneer within 48 hours of the close of the auction, with instructions on payment methods and pick-up, delivery and shipping options.
