Provenance

Previously in the collection of Sen'nosuke Ishizaka (1849-1915), born in Kanazawa, originally from Saga family and became an adopted son of Ishizaka which is well-known family in Toyama. In Meiji period, he moved to Tokyo and became a teacher of Keio Gijuku. After moving back to home-town in Ishikawa prefecture as a politician, the collection began to be built little by little. His student, Kuki Ryuichi (1850-1931) was a key person at the Ministry of Education. Ishizaka could be influenced by Kuki. One of his collection by Hu Yuan was painted for Ishizaka in 1883 while the artist was in Japan.
